Project Haggai
Project Haggai is our vision here at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, House of Glory, Baltimore, to build a befitting Sanctuary to His Glory, where people of all nationality and color who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus can come together to fellowship, worship, and receive soothing refreshing; an uplifting of spirit, soul and body through the Word of God that is sharper than a double edged sword; our armor, through God, to the pulling down of strongholds.
As in the days of Prophet Haggai, there is a need even today to exhort and request that the people of God never forget, in spite of their pursuit of the good things of life, to give consideration to the affairs of God. After all, he gave us the ability to get wealth; also to realize that a refusal to build for God would open an avenue for the devourer to operate against our finances. The people built when they were so exhorted by Prophet Haggai. At the House of Glory, we will also build a Sanctuary to the Glory of God.
Our building effort kicked off on May 3, 2003, with a Fundraising Dinner where over $50,000 was pledged. We have, so far, redeemed almost all of these pledges as well as other contributions. In June 2003, we identified a 4.5 acre piece of land in Hailethorpe/ Arbutus and immediately commenced negotiations with the landowners with a view to approaching our bankers for funding. A contract with the landowners was soon signed by the Pastor, representing House of Glory.
The landowners ratified the Contract Proposal for the final time end of July, 2003 making way for a 60-day feasibility study period for contaminants and other hazards to be identified and another 45days for bank discussions. We closed on the land on November 6, 2003. The 4.5 acre land under discussion is a developers dream, with direct access to public water and sewage lines and nestled at the intersection of Benson Avenue, Baltimore and Sulphur Spring Road and bounded on the third side by Old Sulphur Spring Road. The property is accessible from these roads and is surrounded from all contiguous sides by the County Library, US Postal Services buildings and dwelling homes. All of these make the value high prime.
Earlier in May 2003, we had commenced discussions with a firm of architects for architectural design concept.By December 2003,we had been in consultation with five architects, three of whom made submissions before a final pick was made. This design incorporates a 400-seater Sanctuary with adjoining offices, Conference/Board room, Bookstore, a four classroom Daycare/Nursery, a multipurpose banquet Hall/Gym that will also function as a community center with a Commercial grade kitchen, booking office, lounge and audio-visual room.(See Concept design). This design encompasses almost 21,000-Sq footage in floor space with surrounding parking space for over 100 cars. Accessibility will be from old and new Sulphur Spring Road through Maple and Spruce Avenues which are future designated access roads into the property, through provision made in the Baltimore County master plan. We are in negotiation with the Baltimore County and State Highway administration officials for necessary approvals to take to our bankers for funding.
Project Haggai is an on-going project and will continue to be in the months ahead. All well wishers and lovers of the House of Glory are therefore encouraged to continue to donate to this worthy cause that is fertile ground . Details of expenditure are available on request and all contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the Law. The Lord loves a cheerful giver.
God Bless You.
