Responsibilities

This section covers behavior during scheduled practices, Sunday services, and other established events that occur within the week. It is required that all members shall adhere to the rules set forth as pertaining, and any other rules that may be set by the department head, and/or the pastor.

NOTE:

  • The rules are set to serve as guidelines so each member is well aware of what is expected of him/her, and to serve as an accountability measure. Without set rules, one’s discipline may not be as effective.
  • All members should be aware that provision of individual excuses will be taken into consideration, but cannot be used as a license for rendering lackluster performance, or taking service done in the department for granted.

General

  1. Each member shall recognize that participation in the worship department is first and foremost an opportunity for service to God and the church, and an avenue for developing associated talents and skills.
    1. Because of unique position as worshippers, anyone that views membership purely as a favor to the pastor or to the church will eventually realize that this department is not a place for them.
    2. It is important that every member of the team understands that they are accountable to God, the pastor, and the team.
    3. No member will be allowed to hold the department to ransom, either because of their performance, or their level of commitment. It is important that we always realize (individually and as a group) that God will never allow for a vacuum in his house.
  2. Once a part of the worship department, it should be a member’s desire to grow/develop to a point where his/her service is rewarded with the responsibility of becoming a worship leader.
    1. Every member that truly desires to be a worshipper should have this goal and work towards it.
    2. Every member truly serious about what we do will also realize that it is a privilege and not a right.
    3. Also, this responsibility can be revoked if a worship leader’s effective performance diminishes to a point where it becomes a detriment to the quality and vision of our mandate.
  3. It is everyone’s responsibility to be aware of all scheduled activities that will go on in the church for the whole calendar year. See the church office for the current HOG Calendar of activities or visit, www.rccghouseofglory.org home page.
  4. Each member needs to be proactive about learning praise/worship songs outside of practice hours, so that we can be more effective during practice periods.
  5. Each member needs to be proactive about learning special songs outside of allocated practice hours.
  6. All members will be required to listen to songs and research songs that can potentially be added to the song bank.
  7. During any ministration, a strong effort shall be made to ensure that all songs are performed in English.
    1. Likewise during thanksgiving on the first Sunday of each month, the songs performed, though traditional in nature, must strictly adhere to the English language rule to foster inclusiveness.
    2. On certain occasions, exceptions may be permitted beforehand by either the department head, and/or the pastor.
  8. The core of the songs learned and/or ministered will generally fall under contemporary Christian or Gospel music genre. Therefore radio stations, CDs, and videos of these forms of music should be each member’s main pool as far as song learning goes.
  9. As worshippers in the worship department, each person should always be ready to be called upon to provide or take the lead in rendering songs. So each person should be ready at all times without excuses.
  10. Everyone one must respect their position and respect others within the group.

Practice

  1. All members need to be present at practice. No exceptions.
  2. Each member should also have their notes and pens handy during practice so they can refer to them.
  3. Practice time is every Saturday from 9:00a.m. – 12 p.m.
  4. Each member shall consistently come to practice on time. Any member that is more than 30 minutes late may not be allowed to minister the following Sunday, but must still participate in whatever song rehearsals are in progress.
  5. Anyone that misses two or more practices within a month, with/without getting prior permission may be suspended from ministering for a period of time, e.g. a month (or four Sundays). During suspension, such a person will still be required to attend practices and learn all selected songs.
  6. Anyone who does not learn or take learning of any song seriously will not minister on the next Sunday if lack of knowledge of songs is considered severe. Again, such a person will still be required to come to church early and take his/her place in the designated worship department seating.
  7. Any member that shows a consistent pattern of halfhearted or unproductive behaviors discussed above, such as tardiness, chronic excuses, and/or ineffectiveness, etc. may be suspended indefinitely and asked to take some time to re-evaluate whether or not they want to continue as part of the department. This is to prevent anyone from being an impediment to the department’s collective growth or worse, diminish the level of quality that we are striving to attain.

Church Service

  1. Each member should arrive at church by 10:00 a.m. when the Sunday service starts with Sunday school.
  2. If an individual is late and service has started, he/she may not come up to the microphones unless beckoned to do so by the pastor or the department head. They should take their position in the designated seating for the team, and worship from there.
  3. Frequent tardiness can lead to disciplinary actions and can lead up to indefinite suspension.
  4. When any offering is called for, every member should make their way to the microphones well ahead of the time musical rendition is required; there must be unison. This is so the team is well-positioned and ready to sing when required. That is not the time to prepare your offering. It should either be prepared well before, or prepared after.
  5. When ministration is going on and a song is raised by the pastor (or whoever is ministering), the worship team is required to position behind the microphones and assist with singing during the ministration.
  6. During service, all members of the worship department must seat in the designated seating unless special circumstances require otherwise. Such circumstances should be communicated to the department head at a prior time.

Scheduled Events

  1. On major scheduled events including but not limited to Gethsemane Summit, Peniel Encounter, Divine Proclamation, and Turning Point, at least two singers within the group should always make themselves available. This could be done on a rotating/ scheduled basis. Ideally, it is better that everyone is present.
  2. During Glory Cloud, every member of the worship department must be available except prior permission has been taken and granted by the pastor.
  3. For all these events, all participants must arrive on time and not be tardy. Tardiness rules still apply.
  4. Except in the case where prior permission is obtained, all participants must also be available for all singing requirements that will take place during the event and cannot participate in any other activity that hinders participation with the team.
